View Full Version : Noonans implied threat of harsher budget if Ireland votes No.
Just listening to the Radio where Michael Noonan has implied that a No vote will mean a harsher budget than he was intending.
I am beginning to think that this Govt are definitely stupid.

Congratulations!! Of course they are stupid. What differentiates them from the previous shysters is that they are not so obviously criminal or blatantly corrupt.

Methinks their arrogance will be their downfall.
I predicted before the last election that FF would be wiped and that FG/LAB would follow within 2 years.
I based this prediction on a belief that it was the system they created together that was inherently corrupt and this system had been infected with a small but powerful elite, not capable ( for purely selfish reasons ) of effecting the type of change needed to solve our problems.
But this crisis is far worse than any of them could have imagined and eventually it will consume them and we will get to move on without them.
To be honest I am enjoying watching the last days of the old Irish Empire.

Did he say exactly why a No vote would necessitate a harsher budget? I thought everything was on track.

Noonan going back to old Noonan self (rem Brid Mc Cole case) arrogant and too authoritarian.
A nasty streak in him as he's typical Limerick bullyboy- mxture of shades of Moycross and Summerhill when it comes to him bullying & threatening us.
He's saying that he have the discretion of the budget -(where to spend it and what to save it) etc when & if the FCT pass the referendum.
On other hand, he won't have the discretion when FCT fails to pass it as it will be under the German paymasters.

Blatant bullying.
I'd like to think people won't be pushed around like this.

Blatant bullying.
His attitude is truly disgusting. The arrogance seeps from every word.
I'm sure he doesn't display such a tone, when it comes to meeting 'our friends' in Europe and the US.
What he said today is a pathetic effort to 'Win' for his masters...:mad:

No. He just said that a No vote would mean more austerity.
These eejits just don,t realise that this country is all austeritied out and has already decided it won,t pay anymore tax.
The Central Bankers have over estimated the ability of their pet politicians to convince or coerce taxpayers into bailing out the parasites in the Banks.
We are nearly there now. It won,t be much longer before the Banks are pushed over the cliff and the Central Bankers are forced to clean up their own mess, once and for all.

Noonon will be hoisted on his own petard - High Noonan. Couldn't happen to a nicer person.
The private polls are supposed to be frightening the beejaybus out of FG and Labour!
Anyone got any solid news on these private polls?

What private polls? Haven't heard this.
Further proves the point that this Government itself pushes for more financial pain on the Irish people than the Troika.
Figures for Budget 2013 have already been approved with the Troika in line with projections obviously the Minister has decided to exceed projected budgetary figures to "show us" if we step out of line and vote no.

So much for Noonan's discretion & bullyboy tactics, which would be seen as his decision alone to exceed budgetary projections, not the troika.

I have a few little birds in both camps and it appear the NO vote is hardening and the YES vote is softening!

I heard the interview and it sounded to me as a threat that he would exact revenge on the electorate if there was a No vote. Remember the woman dying of Hepatitis, threatened by Noonan? Same attitude.
There was an economist on Morning Ireland who said that it had been said at an EU summit in January that funding would be available to all states that needed it, irrespective of the Treaty.
Anyone catch who he was? He also mentioned having given evidence to the Daíl Committee.

I linked to a Dail debate on that "agreement" on another thread yesterday -

He's a God damn liar, vote yes and you'll have a mini budget in June as well as a harsh budget in December. Vote no and they'll have to hold off on the mini budget to get a yes vote second time around. They say there won't be a second chance to ratify it but there will, that's why they're holding it in May so they'll have enough time for the rerun.

That was Andy Story of UCD and he was referring to a EU ministers statement on the 30th January.

The parties of the ruling caste usually pretend to represent all the people with appeals to wear the green jersey, Ireland Inc and the constant use of 'we' when they mean 'you', but when it gets tough their true colours appear and they can be seen as the parties of one section of society pressing downwards. Noonan's mask just slipped.
'Vote Fine Gael-Labour or we'll take away your pension.'

Noonan has form in threatening behaviour. If anything, his threats will have the effect of getting otherwise placid people heading into the "No" camp.
This government has still quite some distance to go before it gets to be as wretchedly abysmal as the last one but it is not for the lack of effort. Between Hogan and Noonan, the arrogance, hubris and ignorant dismissing of anyone's opinion other than their own, they are catching up fast.
