Makes you appreciate what you have

That's exactly the captured moment 5intheface. Christmas especially, got to alot of people and i don't mean to place myself tougher amongst any other prisoner when i say that i did'nt let it get to me. Far from it, every day got to me but i learned to hide it better i guess and learned how to handle it all in my own way.

Nail on the head, you do appreciate alot of things in life when you're captive with little else to do with your time but think and nothing else to do except when told/ordered.

I spent my days in cellular confinement in my boxer shorts. Sort of gave me a one up on the screws storming in demanding a strip search. As quick as they could say that [''strip search''] i'd have my shorts in my hand for them smiling.:) Standing proud and unashamed in my birthday suit.

That's me though. When you see young men loosing their minds, tearing at their flesh with razors or being carried out in body bags i think it strengthens your resolve and survival kicks in. ''Don't let the b*stards get you down.''

That basic human instinct.

Prisons are ungodly, inhumane environments, void of compassion and ruled with that ever Victorian/Draconian attitude towards prisoners. I always tried to be the agony uncle, a helping hand, having been through the system in 4 decades.

My thoughts often return to the ones i have known who did'nt make it through that certain hell. May they rest in peace.
