Looks like Green Party Mayor Malcolm Noonan (http://www.ask.com/bar?q=Green+Mayor+Malcolm+Noonan&page=1&qsrc=121&dm=all&ab=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fmalcolmnoonan.com%2Fgreen-councillor-pushes-for-kilkenny-allotments%2F&sg=QycvaU0j93TmclnisvmG2n8kYaTwSUxjxmq9GRCxbGI%3D&tsp=1271285112161) thinks those who oppose Kilkenny's one way system are "knobheads".
Knobheads for electing him perhaps???

Six days is too short a time to pull a trial one-way system. It takes three weeks before a change in the system settles down.

That's him cooked, as far as getting re-elected goes. It's only the truly dumb electoralist who insults their electorate as openly as that, but I'm never surprised at the number of politicos that do and think that they can get away with it. I suppose Paul Gogarty at least had the intelligence to insult only a fellow-politician; many of the electorate out there can relate easily to such shallow cant as Gogarty's and not feel one bit insulted, even if they had voted for Emmet Stagg. But insulting the voters directly - a big no no!

But he said "WE gave it six days. Knobheads"
"Tough love" as the Americans say.

I guess he is name-calling the people who didn't vote for him, would never vote for him anyway, and wouldn't understand why he supported a one-way system. Those who voted for him probably supported the one-way system, so he's hardly going to lose any votes over this.

What time did he make that post ? It has an after-pub look about it.
Malcolm Noonan I hear is very well liked in Kilkenny, which is why he survived the clean out of the Greens in the locals. It was not a political use of language and will lose him votes from older people in particular.

2 p.m. this Saturday at Johns Bridge, Kilkenny, there's a Slow Protest planned by skateboarders, pram users, cylists and walkers who support the one-way system.

There's facebook action going on between people pro the scheme and those looking for other solutions, with quite a few hundred signed up for either side.

I undestand that there's an anti-Head-Shop demonstration at the same time, going in a different direction....

Well, I was in Kilkenny today and saw a demonstration - a couple of hundred on it.
About half cyclists and half walkers.

Looks like Malcom is now getting a slagging off for wearing denims:
Tensions have arisen between the coalition government parties in Kilkenny after a member of Fianna Fail took issue with the casual dress style of the city’s Green mayor.
Malcolm Noonan, Kilkenny’s first citizen, has been criticised for wearing jeans at official functions. At a branch meeting of the Fianna Fail party last week, one member demanded that a stricter dress code be introduced.
Noonan was surprised to read a piece in the local newspaper which indicated that, as a result of the objection, his fashion sense may be examined by a sub-committee of Kilkenny borough council.

Malcolm Noonan in his first term as Mayor arrived at at least one function in full Elvis regalia. Jeans are hardly an issue. I reckon this is an FF plot to boost the fading "alternative" credibility of the Greens.

Elvis regalia? Oh no, the mental image of it...

Malcolm was known as a musician long before politics were ever thought of.
As far as I can remember, the only complaint about the Elvis outfit was that he wore the Mayoral Chain with it.

The fact of the matter is that he is well respected, well liked and is doing a good, honest and decent job of it. I'd take that above an Armani suit and Charvet shirt any day.

He may be "well respected" but he sure as hell does not respect the electorate. Same old song. Just because he does not wear Armani does not mean he isn't arrogant, rude and a condescending buffoon.

I've never known him to be arrogant, rude or condescending... are we talking about the same Malcolm Noonan??

Do you know why he's chosen to stay in the Green Party which is part of this Government ?

Well, if this is the same genius who called voters "knobheads" then ...yes absolutely.
What isn't arrogant or rude about that?

No, I can't speak for Malcolm, but as to the question why would anybody stay in the Green Party? Either to forward their own particular agenda or because they still believe in the ideals and trust the leadership.

Do you think that the people who constantly vote for the corrupt politicians we have in office are somewhat foolish? (Knobheads is not a word I would use myself, but the meaning is pretty much the same). We all think that people who don't vote the same way as us are foolish - don't we?
