Dublin grandmother questioned after airport gun discovery
A grandmother is being questioned by gardai after she attempted to board a Ryanair flight to Birmingham with two loaded pistols in her luggage.

Security staff at Dublin Airport noticed the suspicious-looking objects in the 68-year-old’s carry-on luggage as it passed through an X-ray machine shortly before 8pm last night.

A search of the bag was conducted and two loaded 9mm handguns were found, along with a quantity of loose ammunition.

The weapons and ammunition were seized and the woman was taken to Ballymun Garda Station where she is currently being held under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.

Gardai last night raided the woman’s home in Finglas where a further quantity of ammunition was uncovered.

Detectives investigating the incident believe that a relative of the woman may have been threatened at her UK home and the pensioner was hoping that the guns could be used to prevent further intimidation.

The pensioner can be held in Garda custody for questioning for up to 72 hours. No other arrests have been made in relation to the incident.:eek::eek:

Last flight I was on from Aldergrove, they took a bottle of water off my wife but let me keep 2 lighters. So, if I started a fire, she'd have nothing with which to extinguish it.
